Assistant Director – Job Announcement

JOB SUMMARY: The Associate Director is an employee of the Samaritan House, Inc. and is responsible for the overall direction and administration of programs services, including selection and supervision of employees. This position is responsible to the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Administrative

1. Responsible for all aspects of Permanent Housing and reports to Executive Director the status of these rentals including Housing Quality Standards certification to ensure that quality rental housing is maintained.
2. Develops programs with the Veterans Administration including the implementation of these programs.
3. Ensures that domestic violence clients are benefiting from mainstream resources that are designed to assist their situation effectively and safely.
4. Recommends Permanent Housing program goals and propose policies and procedures to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
5. Oversees staff scheduling with Executive Director.
6. Exercises a high degree of discretion and independent judgment.

Additional Responsibilities as directed by the Executive Director.

Program Related

1. Implements programs, including taking part in needs assessments and planning efforts with the Executive Director.
2. Ensures that care and services are provided in accordance with current laws, rules,regulations, and standards.
3. Oversees the program areas through supervision of staff and efficient use of all resources to meet the goals and objectives of Samaritan House, Inc.
4. Ensures that equipment, buildings, and other facilities are properly maintained through those responsible for such facilities.
5. Maintains direct approach to staff and clients through shelter presence and oversight.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Strong inter-personal skills in dealing with clients and employees.
2. Demonstrated management ability.
3. Extensive knowledge and understanding of homeless programs.
4. Effective oral and written communications skills.
5. Experience in financial practice and management.
6. Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and provide leadership to employees.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum: Baccalaureate Degree or equivalent experience.
2. Experience with homeless clients and programs is highly desirable.
3. Increasingly more responsible administrative experience preferred.
4. Understanding of local homeless and social services climate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending.

Hearing, sight, and speech are essential to perform the duties of the position.
